Welcome to Josie Aston’s site. I’m a freelance arts manager who specialises in research and project management, especially in the field of arts and health. As a consultant, I have advised several NHS Trusts on developing arts programmes and recently finished a national music for health mapping study and an evaluation of a pilot Arts on Prescription project in Cambridgeshire.

I give talks on arts and health and about the hospital history projects I have been involved with. These can be designed for a general audience or customised for more specialist groups such as students or health service managers.

Over the years I have gathered many useful links for arts and health projects and have also written briefing guides about handling the media in the context of hospital arts programmes and approaches to maintenance of artwork in hospital. I recently completed research into the role, experiences and professional development needs of arts co-ordinators in UK and US hospitals. This research was then given as a paper at arts and health conferences in the UK, the US and Brussels.

On this site, you can download free resources to help you plan your own arts and health project and visit my blog where I link to recent press articles on relevant topics.  I also advertise arts and health jobs and contracts on the blog (there is no charge for this service).

You can also find out more about me and what I’ve been working on recently.
